Er... yeah....

I was trying out the demo version of Cinema 4D and Maya last night since I want to get good 3DCG software used by pros. I am the real beginner in 3DCG, but I was adviced to use softwares that pro use so I could get used to the tools of the trade. I asked several pro-level artists and these were what I landed with.

Maya (good for still images and movies)... I had no idea how to use it.

Cinema 4D(C4D) is easier to use... though it's not good for movies. Since I do still image, I think this software is better for me. However I still don't know how I got this:

This figure first had hair only on its butt so I tried to add more and...

Lol

There's no problem about this thing worrying about losing too much hair, huh?

Yeah...

I finished with the B&W version of collab illustration I did with an artist from the US so I think it will be up by tonight or tomorrow

p.s.
I keep on listening to "The Escapist" in Coldplay's CD I got recently. It's such a nice piece of music :D

p.p.s

I restarted working on p.2 of TLOF Chapter 2.3:

I still need to draw more/edit it though.

Finally finished my name of manga...

I finally finished the analog version of manga's name (first draft) today for pro-level contest submission. I worked on it from the end of June and had the first version in July. However, I did not work on it fully until this week when I drew ~36 pages on paper/pencil. I did ~13 pages yesterday and 7 today before going off to post office to send it off to the publisher. It will be my first submission to a pro-level magazine.

It is the first and last work I will do for Surume- the international manga production group formed in June. Due to conflicts in schedule, it will be disbanded. However, the result of this contest submission will be up in Dec. in pro-level magazine- if it turns out well.

I will work on a collab illust. tonight and go off to sleep.

Last night and today's 3DCG

18 more pages to go.

That's the number of pages I have to draw by tomorrow for my manga for the contest. However, I got sick of doing last night for these past few days- so I tried to create something out of SF movie and created something equivalent to cheap bolts.

My first attempt:

Although I liked the color in front, I didn't like those at the back so I changed it to:

Well... it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to so I should have left it as it was.

What I learned:
- How to smoothen out the wireframe
- How to manipulate models from simple cylinders and etc.

Software used:
Blender

3DCG practice: Glass texture

Finally... I managed to make it look like a glass instead of a plastic.

I used three light sources for this (one yellow, two blue). I also added white plane at the bottom to reflect/scatter the light just like what photographers would have used.

Now, since I'm happy with this, I will go back to working on the first draft of manga.

3D CG practice: wine glass?

Turned out kinda funny... since I fiddled around with its material more than I should...
but now... I know how to manipulate some models. I used this tutorial for Blender. It seems pretty useful.

Gaaaah! Done only 3 pages out of 37 for the rough draft!!! Gaaaaah!

Corel Painter X (paint)
Adobe Photoshop (background, color adjustment)

Tonight's 3D

The file didn't get saved so I couldn't work too much on it...

I need to solve resolution problem. It looks a bit weird...

Today's 3D

Wheel: 4th try with 3D by =Waterdroplet-s on deviantART

It took a few hours and 4 hours to render. I think computer does most of the work in 3D since I have no idea what I'm doing or how I did it most of the time.

What it looked like before rendering:

Today's 3D

Not much improvement since the last one- except I now know how to do reflection setting :D
I tried to make the right object look like a glass, and it kind of turned into a plastic material. I'm not really sure how to control camera setting yet- I sometimes manage it and sometimes don't. So, next thing I should learn is how to produce glass and change camera angles properly. Even simple images look totally different with a simple twist of camera. :D
Software used:
Blender
YafRay (rendering)
Time it took:
25-30 min

Eureka!

Being drunk and doing 3D CG simultaneously don't work

Yes... that's what I concluded after drinking out last night. Well, I thought I was strong, but gaaaah! Got knocked out with just one cocktail.

Despite that, I managed to go home, walk the dog (I was walking diagonally), and tried to battle with Blender.

I read several on-line tutorials about great features that the combination of Blender and another free rendering program called Yafray does to images. So, I attempted to produce metal, glass, and since I would need to produce model to do them....

In the end, all failed. However, I managed to learn how to produce my own model with wires.

So... I think I will start off with trying to make simple models. Then, shift to furniture or buildings. Then, figures. I better get back to manga and illustrations tonight since I'm going way off the side track. It's a trial period for me to see if I'm really ok with 3D. I think I will go off trying to Shade or other 3D softwares if I like 3D modeling. This skill will probably help in my job as well, if I manage to produce nice images :D

However, I heard once from the pro-manga editor that there's one mangaka that produces building models to refer to it whenever she's drawing manga scenes. So... I guess I'm attempting the same method- trying to learn models, but in this case, CG.

Yeah... really...

My first attempt with the free 3D software, Blender:

1st attempt with 3D CG by =Waterdroplet-s on deviantART

Yes, a glitch happened, and the word is upside down.

One more I did tonight

PLOP- 2nd 3D by =Waterdroplet-s on deviantART

Even if this doesn't work, I can still use it as a reference for my manga, so I'm happy with this software.

Oi...

Today is the day when I curse my fate of being born Japanese in Japan.

Reason?

It's because I slept wrong and my neck is hurting me. In Japan, you have to bow in order to greet people- just a simple nod is fine- but gaaaaaah!

YOU DON'T WANT TO FACE THAT WHEN YOUR NECK IS HURTING LIKE HELL!!

Anyway, I was working on coloring last night of that side face so expect it to be up in a few days. I edited the Japanese version of p.1 of Ch 2.3 of TLOF so it has some lonely atmosphere with more space between phrases.

I have both English and Japanese versions up on DA, but here's English version.

I will post the second page in a week or two. Gotta catch some sleep now since it's 2:30 am.
